Background

The first business establishment was called Mabopane Funeral Undertakers and was established in 1969 by David Makapane Maupa in Winterveld in Mabopane. The main office moved to Phokwane in 1975 where Richard Maupa joined as junior partner and became senior partner until his untimely passing in 1999. David Makapane Maupa had five children, Thabang, Richard, Sipho, Ouma and Oupana. Thabang passed on in 1981, Richards in 1999 and Ouma passed in 2007. After the passing of Richards Maupa, Sipho Maupa and his wife, Melidah Maupa took over the running of the business. Mamelodi branch opened in 1999, it’s headed by Mrs Maupa and we do have a satellite office in Jane Furse. The other son of David, Sipho Maupa took over as a senior partner until this day. Phokwane Funerals Directors is a member of SAFPA and a recently joined Tshwamodima a Tshwane association of funerals directors.
